Nothing is left open in the middle of this star: the split willow carries on across the face, over a metal frame under the weave. White wash sinks in and leaves the willow pale with the grain showing. Jute string on a metal ring is fitted at the top point.

It is made to hang, so a wall, an internal door, a landing or a shop display all work. Leant on a mantelpiece it will stay put, though nothing is built in to hold it up. The willow is unsealed, which keeps it indoors.

Is it painted or washed?

It is a wash, not paint. The white sinks into the split willow rather than sitting on top of it as a coat of paint would.

Is the back of the star finished too?

How does it compare with the Hanging White Wicker Angel?

The angel is 27 x 3 x 23 cm in white painted willow. This is 40 x 5 x 40 cm in white wash, so it is a larger piece in a softer, greyer white.

Can it stand on a mantelpiece instead of hanging?

It will lean against a wall on a mantel, though nothing is built into it to hold it upright. The string means it is designed to hang.
