A small standing tree, woven in split antique wash willow over a metal frame. Splitting the willow lengthways before weaving gives a flatter, finer strand than whole willow, so the branches can be worked closely at this scale. Three feet come with it, so it stands on a flat surface without a stand or a hook.

It is light enough to shift about, and suits a mantelpiece, a windowsill or a hall table. Battery lights tuck into the open weave, but keep anything that warms up away from it, because the willow is dry.

FAQs

Does it need anything to stand up?

No. Three feet come with it, so it stands on a flat surface without a stand or a hook.

Can I put lights on it?

Battery lights, yes, and the open weave is what makes it work: the wire tucks between the willow rather than sitting on top. Keep mains lights and anything that warms up away from it, as this is dry willow.

What is split willow?

Willow cut lengthways before they are woven, which gives a flatter and finer strand than a full willow. It is what allows a piece this size to be woven closely rather than openly.

Can it go outside?

Not for the season. Willow left out in the wet softens and the metal frame will mark it. A porch or a covered doorway for an evening is fine; a garden through December is not.
