This rattan Christmas tree skirt is a handwoven collar in split Kubu grey rattan that covers a tree stand and the bottom of the trunk. The small is 52 cm across the base with a 40 cm opening at the top, stands 20 cm tall and weighs 800 g; the large is 58 cm across the base with a 45 cm opening, 24 cm tall, at 1.1 kg.

The measurement that decides which size you need is the opening at the top rather than the base, because that is what has to pass over the stand: 40 cm on the small, 45 cm on the large. Measure the widest point of your stand, including any splayed feet, before you order. Unlike a fabric skirt this is a solid woven form, so it holds its shape instead of creasing and flattening, and it stays put once presents start piling up against it. It also stores as one rigid piece rather than a folded cloth, which is worth thinking about given it spends eleven months of the year in a loft.

Which size do I need?

Measure your tree stand at its widest point and compare it with the top opening: 40 cm on the small, 45 cm on the large. If your stand has splayed metal feet, measure across those rather than the body of the stand, and take the large if it is close.

Does it work with a real tree and an artificial one?

Either, as long as the stand goes through the opening. Artificial trees tend to have wider splayed feet, so they are the ones most likely to need the large.

Does it open out to go around the trunk?

No, it is a woven form rather than a cloth that wraps, so put it in position first and stand the tree in it. Worth knowing before the tree is up and decorated.

How do I store it?

It keeps its shape, so it goes away as a solid piece rather than folding flat. Keep it dry and out of a damp loft corner, and it will come out looking the same next December.
