This grey wicker heart is a willow wreath woven around a chipwood core, available in three sizes. The small is 30 cm across, the medium 40 cm, and the large 50 x 44 cm, each around 8 to 10 cm deep, weighing 500 g, 800 g and 1.6 kg. It hangs on a front door, a wall or a mantel, and works year round rather than only at Christmas.

The chipwood core is why it holds its shape. Willow woven over a solid former keeps a clean heart outline instead of sagging into a rounder shape over time, which is what happens to a wreath built on wire alone. Which size suits a front door?

The medium at 40 cm is the usual choice for a standard door, and the large at 50 x 44 cm makes a statement on a wide or double door. The small at 30 cm is better indoors, on a wall, a mantel or the back of a kitchen door.

Can it hang outside?

On a sheltered porch or under a canopy, yes. In driving rain it will weather and grey off, because willow does. If it is going on an exposed door, expect it to age faster than one kept under cover.

Can I decorate it?

Yes, and the open weave makes it easy. Stems, dried flowers, eucalyptus, ribbon or fairy lights all push into the willow and hold without wire, and come out again without marking it.

How do I hang it?

Anything that hooks through the weave will do: a door hanger, ribbon looped through the top, or a single hook. The large weighs 1.6 kg, so use a fixing rated for the weight rather than an adhesive hook.
