This antique wash table top xmas tree is a willow tree woven from split willow on a metal frame, measuring 61 x 29 x 11 cm and weighing 300 g. It is a long, shallow tree made to sit along a table, mantelpiece or sideboard.

The proportions are what make it a centrepiece rather than a decoration: 61 cm long against 29 cm tall and only 11 cm deep, so it runs the length of a table without taking up the width of it. Our other willow tree is the opposite shape at 30 x 10 x 37 cm, taller than it is wide, and stands on three feet.

How is this different from your other willow Christmas tree?

Shape and where it goes. This one is 61 cm long and 11 cm deep, made to lie along a surface. The other is 30 x 10 x 37 cm, taller than it is wide, and comes with three feet so it stands upright or hangs.

Will it mark a polished table?

At 300 g there is very little weight on the surface, but willow is willow. A runner or a felt pad underneath is worth it on anything french-polished.

Can I put lights on it?

Battery lights, yes, and the weave gives plenty to tuck the wire into. Keep mains lights and anything that warms up away from dry willow.

Is it only for Christmas?

The shape is a tree, so mostly. The antique wash is a neutral brown rather than a festive colour, which is why some people leave it out through the winter rather than just December.
