This antique wash full star is a willow star woven from split willow on a metal frame, hung from jute string on a metal ring. It measures 40 x 40 cm and 5 cm deep, and weighs 300 g. It hangs on a door, a wall or a window.

We make this star in two versions. The full star is the smaller and lighter of the pair at 40 x 40 cm and 300 g; the open star is 45 x 45 cm and 400 g. Split willow is the reason either can be this light: the rods are cut lengthways before weaving, so the strands are finer than a whole rod and the metal frame carries the shape.

The process of weaving with willow is naturally sustainable due to the relatively quick growth of the plant fibres. The Artisans use traditional weaving methods and techniques to create highly decorative pieces.

How is this different from the open star?

How does it hang?

From a length of jute string attached to a metal ring, so it goes straight onto a hook, a nail or a door wreath hanger without anything else.

Can it go on an outside door?

Under a porch or a covered doorway, yes. In the open, rain will soften the willow over a season and the metal frame will mark it, so bring it in when the weather turns.

Is it only for Christmas?

No. The antique wash is a neutral brown rather than a festive colour, so plenty of people leave it up all year on a hallway or landing wall.
