Paper Rope
Paper rope baskets are great for magazines and stationery items due to their lightweight nature.
Hessian
Our hessian baskets are ideal for storing logs by the fireplace. This is down to the durability of the material.
Willow
Willow baskets are extremely versatile and can be used for a number of purposes such as storing food, household items or cosy blankets.
Seagrass
Seagrass is a very popular material used worldwide to produce strong, decorative baskets. Our seagrass baskets are perfect for laundry and other household items.
Basket Material FAQs
Rattan is one of the most durable basket materials. Rattan is a natural fibre that grows in Indonesia and the surrounding areas. Handpicked and woven into strong, durable baskets, rattan is ideal for log baskets.
Wicker refers to the weaving process used to create the basket, while rattan is a specific type of vine used as a material. More often than not, rattan is used in wicker weaving because of its strength and flexibility.
Seagrass baskets are naturally water-resistant to a degree. This is down to the plant’s origins in a marine environment. However, remember that they are not totally waterproof so it's best to avoid prolonged exposure to water to prevent mould.

At Northern Willow, we recommend that you use the following items to make your wicker baskets last:
- Soft, microfiber cloth

To clean your wicker basket, gently brush the material before using a damp cloth to clean away any dust or debris. Avoid storing your basket near liquids, damp areas or near artificial heat.
