Hand-woven in Indonesia from kubu grey rattan, a grade soaked and dried before weaving so the grey sits evenly across the basket. The base is curved rather than flat, a handle stands above the rim, and a plastic lining runs throughout.

Indoors this takes a potted olive, a fig or a houseplant that has outgrown its pot. The lining is sealed, so water draining from the pot sits in the base until you tip it away. The larger size suits a tree on the floor, the smaller a hearth or a corner. Both are also sold as a pair.

FAQs

What is kubu grey rattan?

Rattan is a climbing palm. Kubu is the grey-washed grade of it, soaked and dried before weaving so the colour sits evenly across the whole basket rather than in patches.

Does the handle carry the weight when it is full?

We have not load tested it, so we will not put a figure on it. With a soil-filled pot inside, we would lift from underneath and treat the handle as a guide rather than the load path.

Will the lining hold water that runs out of a pot?

Yes. It is a sealed plastic sleeve with no hole in the bottom, so anything that drains from a pot sits in the base. Tip it out rather than leaving it standing.

Is this the same shape as your Tapered Rattan Round Planter?

No. The tapered planter narrows in a straight line to a 24 cm or 28 cm base, and it has no handle. This one curves at the base and carries a handle that adds 8 cm to the overall height.
