This rectangular tray is woven from split double steamed willow, with no lid. Splitting the willow lengthways leaves one flat face, and that face is laid outward to give the smooth sides. The sides taper out from a smaller base, so the trays stack inside one another. There are three sizes, or a set of all three.

They are used for storage and display, on a shelf, a dresser or a windowsill. The set is the one to choose if you want them nested when they are not in use.

Which one fits a standard windowsill?

The medium is 20.5 cm front to back, the large 25.5 cm and the extra large 30.5 cm. Most sills run 15 cm to 25 cm, so measure yours before choosing the two bigger sizes.

How does split willow differ from a whole rod?

The rod is cut lengthways and woven flat face out. It gives a wider, flatter band, a smoother surface to the hand and roughly half the weight of the same tray in whole rods.

Are these the same shape as the seagrass tapered trays?

The same three footprints, bases and depths. The difference is material: willow here, seagrass over a metal frame there, and less than half the weight in this version.

Will the colour fade?

Double steamed willow lightens gradually in strong daylight. It happens to all unsealed willow and is not a fault. Keep it out of a south-facing window if you want the brown to stay deep.
