A traditional cookery shopper in full light steamed willow: oval, shallow, with the handle woven down into the body of the basket instead of being lashed to the rim.
Because the handle runs on into the weave, a full load pulls through the whole basket rather than dragging at two fixing points. Shallow sides keep everything in sight and make unpacking quick, which suits a market shop of vegetables and bread, fruit left out on a kitchen table, or dishes carried across to a buffet. Lay a cloth in it for anything damp.

FAQs
How much will it hold?
42 x 30 cm of floor and 14 to 18 cm of side, so a market shop of vegetables, bread and a few jars rather than a full supermarket trolley. The shallow sides are what make it easy to unpack at the other end.
Why does an interwoven handle matter?
Because it is the part that fails first on a cheap basket. Here the handle lengths carry on down into the weave of the body rather than being fixed to the rim, so the load is spread through the basket instead of pulling on two points.
Can I put food straight in it?
Bread, fruit, vegetables and anything wrapped, yes. It is unlined willow, so lay a cloth in it for anything loose, greasy or damp, and keep raw meat out of it.
How should I look after it?
Brush it out or vacuum it on a low setting. A damp cloth handles marks. Let it dry naturally if it gets caught in the rain, and store it somewhere dry rather than in a damp cupboard.
