What makes a Scandi storage basket different from a traditional wicker basket?

The main difference is the use of chipwood panels within the willow construction. These panels create flatter surfaces and more defined sides than a basket woven entirely from rounded willow rods. The result is a structured appearance that works particularly well with Scandinavian-inspired interiors.

What is chipwood, and why is it used in basketware?

Chipwood is made from thin wooden strips or sheets that can be formed into panels for baskets and storage containers. It provides relatively flat surfaces while allowing the product to retain a natural wooden character. Combined with willow, it creates a different texture from conventional wicker basketware.

Can I use these baskets for storing clothing?

Yes. They can be used for folded clothing, accessories, towels and other dry household textiles. A fabric-lined basket provides a softer surface between the contents and the wooden construction, which may be preferable for delicate items.

How does this differ from an all-willow white wash storage basket?

The Scandi basket uses chipwood panels and a solid white painted finish, while the all-willow white wash range is woven entirely from willow and retains more visible natural variation. The Scandi design has flatter sides, whereas the all-willow version provides a more traditional rounded weave.

How should I clean the basket?

Remove loose dust using a soft brush or dry cloth, taking care around the chipwood panels and woven corners. Minor marks can be wiped gently with a lightly dampened cloth. Avoid soaking the wooden structure, and ensure any removable lining is completely dry before replacing it.
