What is the purpose of the wooden frame?

The wooden frame provides a defined structure around the woven willow, forming the upper rim and base. This helps create straighter edges and a more structured appearance than a basket made entirely from willow rods. It also provides the material into which the carrying handles are cut.

What is split willow, and how does it differ from full willow?

Split willow is produced by dividing willow rods lengthways before weaving them into the basket. The flatter strips create a different surface texture from complete round rods, producing a broader, more layered appearance. This is particularly noticeable along the sides of the basket.

Can this basket be used for organising shelves and cupboards?

Yes. The rectangular shape and defined corners make it suitable for arranging household accessories on appropriately sized shelves. It can accommodate craft supplies, stationery, folded cloths and other dry items. Check the available shelf dimensions before ordering.

Are the carrying handles made from willow or wood?

The handholds are cut into the wooden frame rather than being formed from separate willow loops. This keeps the exterior relatively smooth and avoids protruding handles, making the basket convenient to position alongside furniture or other storage containers.

Can I use the basket for displaying potted plants?

A suitably sized potted plant can be displayed inside, provided it is kept in a separate waterproof container or saucer. The basket is unlined, so avoid allowing compost or water to come into direct contact with the willow and wooden frame.
