Painted black willow rather than washed or stained, woven into a long lidded trunk with black faux leather straps, a buckle and a rope handle at each end. Paint sits on the surface, so the colour is solid and the weave shows as texture. One size, unlined or with a removable black cotton and polyester lining.

Blankets, board games, shoes and hallway clutter are what it gets used for. Black hides scuffs and dust better than a pale finish. The hinged lid is woven willow across the full top: a tray or a stack of books, not seating.

What kind of black finish is this?

It is painted willow, not a dye or a wash. The paint covers the willow, so the trunk reads as a solid black with the weave showing as texture rather than colour variation.

What do the rope handles do that woven ones do not?

They stand away from the body, so a hand goes right under them when the trunk is full. Our Buff Wicker Storage Trunk with Rope Handles uses the same arrangement in a pale finish.

Can I stand things on the lid?

The lid is woven willow over the full 67 x 47 cm top and will take light objects such as a tray or a stack of books. We would not sit on it, and we have not load tested it.

What does the lining add?

300 g, and a smooth black cotton and polyester surface inside that comes out for washing. Unlined, the inside is bare painted willow.
