This double steamed storage cube is one willow basket, 33 x 35 x 32 cm and 1.1 kg, with a handle set into each side. The willow keeps its natural golden colour and is left unlined. Its near cubic shape means several line up neatly along a shelf or under a bench, holding blankets, kindling, magazines or a wicker storage basket full of children's books.

Double steaming cooks the willow rods before weaving and brings out a deep golden brown with a slight sheen. The same basket is made in an antique wash finish, which reads grey where this one reads gold. Dimensions and weight are identical across the two.

Why is this one golden and the antique wash cube grey?

Different finishing. Double steaming heats the rods with the bark on before they are woven and the colour that comes through is a warm golden brown. Antique wash is applied afterwards and mutes that colour to a grey brown.

Is the colour the only difference between the two cubes?

On the figures we hold, yes. Both measure 33 x 35 x 32 cm, weigh 1.1 kg and are unlined willow with side handles.

Does it have handles?

Two, one in each of the opposing sides, woven into the basket rather than added on. They are hand holds instead of carrying handles, so the basket stays flat against a wall.

Will it mark a wooden floor?

The base is woven willow and it has no feet or hard corners, but a loaded basket dragged across a board can still scuff it. Lift it rather than slide it, and it will leave a varnished floor alone.
