Spread out, this is a red autumn tartan in polyester fleece; turned over, it is a sheet of waterproof PVC. The rug folds into a carrying case built into it, with a handle on top, so there is no separate bag to keep track of.

The PVC side goes down on the grass and keeps ground damp away from the fleece you sit on. It wipes over with a damp cloth instead of going in the wash, which suits a rug kept in a car boot for picnics, beach trips and touchlines.

Will it keep damp out?

The PVC backing is waterproof, so ground moisture stays underneath rather than coming through to the fleece. It is not a groundsheet for sitting in standing water, but it handles grass after rain.

How many people does it seat?

Four sitting comfortably at 142 x 117 cm, or two with a hamper and food laid out between them.

How does it pack away?

It folds into its own case with a handle, so there is nothing separate to lose. At 800 g it carries easily alongside a hamper.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the PVC side down and shake the fleece out. That is normally enough. Let it dry fully before folding it away, because a damp rug left in its case will smell.
