This paper rope hamper is a lidded storage basket woven from coloured twisted paper on a metal wire frame, with faux leather fastenings and a metal clasp, in four sizes or as a set of all four. The small measures 30 x 21 x 15 cm at 700 g, the medium 35 x 26 x 17 cm, the large 40 x 30 x 19 cm, and the extra large 45 x 34 x 21 cm at 1.3 kg. Black, grey, green, navy and red run through the range, with burgundy and brown in the larger sizes.

Colour is the reason this range exists. Willow takes a wash or a paint but never quite a true solid colour, whereas twisted paper cord is dyed right through before it is woven, so a navy hamper is navy rather than navy-ish. The metal frame underneath is what lets these stack squarely on top of one another instead of settling into each other, and the four sizes step up by 5 cm at a time so a stack graduates properly. Faux leather fastenings and a metal clasp finish the lid, and the whole thing stays light: even the largest is only 1.3 kg.

Which size should I choose?

They step evenly from 30 to 45 cm long and 15 to 21 cm deep, so it is usually the shelf that decides. The small and medium suit paperwork, cables and craft materials; the large and extra large take folded clothes and bedding. The set of four is for a graded stack or a matched run along one shelf.

Is every colour available in every size?

Black, grey, green, navy and red run across all four sizes. Burgundy and brown are only made in the larger sizes, so check the size and colour together before ordering a matched set.

Is it as strong as a willow basket?

It is built on a metal wire frame, and that is what holds the shape rather than the weave itself. Paper rope is a lighter material than willow, so think of these as storage that stays put rather than baskets for carrying a heavy load about.

How do I clean it?

Dust it or run a vacuum over it on a low setting. Paper rope should not get wet, so deal with spills quickly and do not take a damp cloth to it the way you would with willow.
