This black shredded paper is hamper filler made in the UK from 100% recycled paper, supplied as a 4 kg box measuring 33 x 33 x 30 cm. One box fills roughly 35 of our 14 inch hampers, and the paper is 100% biodegradable.

Filler does two jobs at once, which is why it is worth buying enough of it. It holds the contents still so nothing arrives rattling about or broken, and it lifts everything up so the top layer sits near the rim where it can be seen, rather than sunk out of sight in the bottom of the basket. Black is the colour that does the second job best: it reads as shadow behind the products instead of competing with their packaging, which is why it is the usual choice for gin, whisky and anything with a dark label. Once the hamper is unpacked it goes in the recycling or the compost.

How many hampers will 4 kg fill?

Around 35 of our 14 inch hampers, though it depends entirely on how deeply you pack them. If you are dressing a small number generously, work on fewer than that.

Is it recyclable?

Yes. It is 100% recycled paper to begin with and 100% biodegradable, so it goes in the paper recycling or on a compost heap once the hamper has been emptied.

Will the colour transfer onto the contents?

It is dyed paper, so for unwrapped pale fabrics or anything unsealed it is worth lining the basket with tissue first. For bottles, jars and packaged goods it is not something to worry about.

Can I use it for anything other than hampers?

Yes. It works for gift boxes, shop and market display, and as void fill when you are posting something fragile.
