This rectangular toilet basket is a lidded antique wash wicker basket with a top handle, made to hold spare rolls and bathroom bits out of sight. It measures 37 x 19 x 32 cm, or 37 cm to the top of the handle, and weighs 1 kg. The lid is detached, so it lifts straight off rather than needing clearance behind.

Nineteen centimetres front to back is what makes it work in a bathroom. That fits the run of floor beside a cistern or between a pedestal and a wall, where a square basket will not go, while 32 cm of height means it holds a proper stack rather than a token few. With the lid on, everything is hidden; with the lid off, it is an ordinary open basket.

Will it fit beside my toilet?

Measure the gap between the pan or pedestal and the wall. At 19 cm front to back it suits a narrow run, and at 37 cm long it needs a clear stretch rather than a corner. Height is 32 cm to the lid.

Does the lid need clearance above it?

Only enough to lift it off, since it is detached rather than hinged. That makes it a better choice than a hinged hamper under a basin or a low windowsill.

How does it compare to your open toilet roll basket?

Is it suitable for a damp bathroom?
