Two sizes of hand-woven kubu rattan basket, handles built into the ends, lined with hessian cut from recycled coffee sacks. The medium is long, narrow and low; the large a tall floor basket.

The medium is made to slide into the gap under a hallway bench, and with nothing standing proud of the ends, nothing catches as it slides in and out. The large sits beside furniture instead of under it and swallows logs, bedding, laundry or toys. Sacking that has carried coffee is coarse and hard-wearing, which is what a liner should be.

Which one actually goes under a bench?

The medium. 63 cm long, 26 cm front to back, 31 cm high. The large stands 50 cm tall, so it belongs on the floor beside furniture rather than beneath it.

What should I measure first?

Clear height under the bench and the width of the opening. Leave a couple of centimetres over the 31 cm so you can get a hand beneath the end to pull it out.

Recycled coffee sacks, really?

Yes. The hessian is repurposed from sacks that have already carried coffee. It is coarse and hard-wearing, which is what you want in a lining. Brush or shake it out, and use a damp cloth for marks.

What suits the large size?

It holds a lot: logs by a fire, spare bedding, laundry, or toys in a family room. At 50 cm deep you are reaching down into it, so it works best for things you take out by the armful.
