Shaped to stand on a staircase rather than on a flat floor, this oval basket is woven in full antique wash willow and carried by a fixed handle over the top. Take it unlined, or with a removable garden rose cotton and polyester lining, or a white cotton one.

It gathers whatever is waiting to go up or down: post, folded washing, shoes, books. The handle stands clear above the load, so the basket can be picked up in passing with one hand. Both linings lift out to wash; unlined is the lightest of the three.

• Full antique wash finish willow
• Sold unlined, or with a removable garden rose or white cotton lining
• Fixed willow handle over the top, 14 cm above the rim
• 42 x 26.5 x 39 cm, 53 cm to the top of the handle
• 700 g unlined, 800 g with a lining
• Holds post, shoes, folded laundry or books waiting to go up or down

Please be aware, colours may vary slightly as our products are made from natural materials.

The process of basket weaving with willow is naturally sustainable due to the relatively quick growth of the plant fibres. The artisans use traditional weaving methods and techniques to create highly decorative pieces.

FAQs

What makes it a stair basket?

The shape. It is built to stand on a staircase with the handle upright and clear of the tread above. If the exact geometry matters on your stairs, email us and we will measure one.

How much does a lining add?

A hundred grams, and it lifts out. The garden rose version is a cotton and polyester blend, the white version is cotton.

Does it only work on stairs?

It is shaped for a staircase and that is where it does its job. We have not stood one on a level floor for any length of time, so if you want it for a landing or a hallway, ask us first and we will try it here.

Antique wash or double steamed for a dark staircase?

Antique wash is the grey finish and double steamed the warmer brown. The basket underneath measures 42 x 26.5 x 39 cm in both, so the choice is colour alone.
